Report on the Recycling Potentials of Strategic Metals published
INTECUS was member of the research group of the project ReStra. The final report is published now.
The project ‘ReStra‘ analyses potentials for the recycling of strategic raw materials and the sub-stitution of primary raw materials by secondary raw materials. As a first step, target elements have been identified on the basis of analysis of criticality (Rare Earth Elements, Palladium, Gal-lium, Germanium, Indium, Gold, Rhodium, Platinum). Their application and quantification in products (industry catalysts, vehicle catalysts, alloy, battery, laser, wind energy, vehicle, medical equipment, fuel cell, optical fibre, photovoltaic, LED, home appliances, pedelec, e-bike, air con-dition, display panel, hub dynamo, ceramics, absorber material, high temperature supercon-ductor, data processing centre) have been the subsequent part of the research.
Existing disposal chains for the selected end of life products and barriers for an improved recy-cling as well as, where relevant, path dependencies have been elements for the identification of quantitative optimising potentials.
Based on the mentioned working steps recommendations have been developed to promote circular economy for the selected strategic raw materials and applications on technical, legal and political level.

Update of Best Practice Municipal Waste Management published
The need to curb natural resources depletion and climate change and secure a healthy living space for an ever growing human society has become a global challenge which increases the demand to minimise waste generation and manage arising wastes effectively and sustainably on a worldwide scale. This task applies to all countries independently from their status of development. Many countries are therefore faced with the necessity to initiate a process of transformation from the conventional scheme of waste disposal through simple dumping or landfilling towards the gradual implementation of a closed loop management of their wastes.

The project was supported by UBA and conducted by INTECUS.
